12th February 2010Local youths receive recognition for voluntary work
Two young volunteers were presented with a Millennium Volunteer (MV) Award in recognition of the number of volunteer hours clocked up at The Ecology Centre in Kinghorn.
The MV Award issued by Volunteer Centre Fife were presented by Youth Development Worker, Linda Turbull and John Park MSP at an award ceremony held at The Ecology Centre on Friday 12th February, 2010.
Stewart Fleming from Glenrothes was the first to receive his MV Award for 50 volunteer hours followed by Mark Forbes, Kinglassie who totalled 100 hours. Both Stewart and Mark have enjoyed their time at the Centre, Stewart said, "Its great here, I am always doing something different and getting the chance to learn new things". Mark was very happy with his award and said "I love coming to Kinghorn it’s so nice and I get to work with a lot of different people".
John Park MSP was very impressed by the effort of the two young volunteers and commented that he was "Overjoyed to be involved with the presentation ceremony and delighted that the volunteers at The Ecology Centre are gaining so much from the experience".
Ronnie Mackie, General Manager at the Centre said "Stewart and Mark are a good example of young men willing to work hard with other volunteers across all age groups and abilities to achieve something for the Centre while acquiring new skills for themselves. I hope other young people read about this and consider volunteering here as well”
