Opportunities Fife Partnership

Outdoor placements &
Forest School Qualification

A jointly funded project with Fife Council Opportunities Fife partnership and Scottish Government.

 

We will encourage improved skills in education, estate and woodland management and more! An increased confidence and building self-esteem in a nature setting.

 

Improved teamwork and knowledge of the woodland environment, ecology, sustainability, conservation, restoration Forth, and safe working practices. Improved mental health and well-being. Developing key skills.

 

We have a variety of job roles to meet the needs and skills of a range of individuals. We strive to improve access for all.

About our project

Who Can Join?

  • Over the age of 16 - unfortunately we cannot accept anyone under the age of 16 for this project.

  • Anyone who would benefit from a volunteer placement to learn outdoor estate/woodland. management/gardening skills.

  • Anyone looking to build their confidence, self-esteem and improve wellbeing in an outdoor environment.

  • Anyone interested in gaining an SCQF FOLA 4 (Forest and Outdoor Learning Award).

  • Those looking to overcome barriers to work.

  • Anyone who would benefit from support to move forward in life and achieve goals.

The process

  • An initial meeting with our case manager which includes person-centred planning, goal setting and placement design.

  • Start your placement with support throughout from case manager and Ecology Centre delivery staff.

  • On-going support and reflection.

  • At the end of your placement - support and signposting for your next steps.

How can I get involved?

  • We accept referrals from organisations and self/family referrals for age 16+.

  • FOLA 4 Courses are 8 week blocks, each session 2-3 hours per week, groups of 10.

  • Volunteer placement are on average 37 hours long with flexibility on how this is structured. 

When can I start?

  • We are open for referrals.

  • Placements have started and are ongoing.

  • Our project continues till March 2025.

FOLA Forest School 4

We would like to deliver a FOLA 4 course during the summer term.

Dates: Commencing on Tuesday the 30th April and occurring each Tuesday until the 18th of June.

Times: 10am - 12:30pm

Location: The Ecology Centre, Kinghorn

​

Our dates and times are fixed. Therefore we are unable to offer any flexibility on the above.

Class sizes are up to 10 participants.  We are looking for engagement and a commitment of 8 weeks to ensure people can gain the FOLA 4 Forest school qualification.
