Everyone is welcome here at any time at but on Thursdays we make a special effort to welcome people living with dementia. Our 'Wide open doors' project on a Thursday at The Ecology Centre offers a wide range of activities which are particularly suitable for people who have been recently diagnosed or are in the early stages of any kind of dementia or memory loss.
One retired man who works in the Tool Shed on Thursday mornings says “coming here has given me back a sense of purpose, I can enjoy working on the tools and do something useful.”
Thanks to new funding we can now offer opportunities for people to come and work in the polytunnel and gardens, enjoy short walks around the site of come and do some cooking in the kitchen. A shared lunch is available to anyone around over lunchtime…. and the kettle is never cold.
Supporting carers and befrienders will also be made very welcome. Our experienced staff will be on hand to help with activities at all times.
There is no cost involved apart from travelling here. Our emphasis is on using existing skills and giving everyone the opportunity to contribute to their community in their own way, as well as supporting the people around them.
Activities will typically be for a couple of hours, working at whatever pace is comfortable, and could involve potting up seedlings, harvesting vegetable, birdwatching around the loch, preparing and serving up homemade soup etc.
