We have recently received funding from the People’s Postcode Trust to invest in our ‘Nature Nurture’ project with offers much needed nature therapy to vulnerable groups in Fife. This generous grant of £9,268 has enabled us to provide free therapeutic education sessions to young people to help boost self-confidence and improve physical and mental health.
Already we have delivered sessions for Fife Young Carers and Fife Women’s Aid. Jordana Gold of Fife Young Carers said of their visit “The two days we spent at the Ecology Centre were a brilliant experience for all Young Carers involved. It gave them a chance to get out into the great outdoors and experience things they would normally not get the chance to. A break away from home and from their caring responsibilities for just a little while makes such a difference to them”
We have been particularly keen to develop this type of project as a number of studies have shown that time spent outdoors is beneficial for young people’s physical and emotional health. Our own experience of providing therapeutic sessions has left us in no doubt the difference that these session can make to the lives of young people in need. This funding has given us the opportunity to provide more of these experiences to young people in Fife and we are very grateful to the players of the Postcode Lottery for their support”.
The Centre will be providing free sessions for eligible groups until end July 2014; any groups working with vulnerable young people in Fife are being encouraged to get in touch with The Ecology Centre on 01592 891567 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
