Nature therapy - transformative experiences
At The Ecology Centre we’ve developed therapeutic programmes, which use nature as a tool to improve the lives of young people facing challenges and disadvantage.
Claire Reid, the Centre’s Education Manager leads the Nature therapy sessions and has many years of experience working with those with additional support needs.
Nature therapy sessions are tailored to support the needs of the group and cover topics, including:-
- Practical conservation
- Creative activities
- Emotions and communication
- Nature exploration
- Team building
They are designed to build self-esteem, communication and teamwork skills, as well as providing a therapeutic experience in nature. The sessions tend to last 2 hours and we recommend programmes run for around 6 – 12 weeks. See below for some recent feedback we received for our Nature therapy sessions:-
“Nature Therapy from The Ecology Centre has provided a fantastic opportunity and learning experience for a small group of our pupils. They have been out in the fresh air in all weathers, including snow, engaging with all the activities. The growth in their resilience and self-esteem, as well as their teamwork and problem solving has been very evident as the sessions have progressed. Well done and thank you Claire and Callum” Pathhead Primary School
