Dementia Friendly Tool shed
If you're interested in working with hand tools, then our small, friendly Tool Shed sessions on a Thursday morning and afternoon might be just the thing for you.
Every Thursday we run a special programme of volunteering activities and opportunities specifically designed for people living with dementia, or in the early stages of any kind of dementia or memory loss. Thursday sessions are very relaxed and supported by two members of staff. The sessions run from:-
- 10.00am - 12.00pm
- 1.30pm - 4.00pm
One of the Tool Shedders recently commented “cleaning up these tools gives me a sense of purpose, I wish it was on every morning” while his wife told staff “you wouldn’t believe how much he looks forward to Thursdays now, it is the only morning he wants to leave the house early and he is in a better mood for the rest of the day too. I must admit, I also love having a couple of hours to myself knowing he is in good hands”.
We also run a dementia friendly volunteering session in the afternoon doing activities around our site, including; gardening, growing projects or birdwatching around the Loch.
