The Ecology Centre is one of the first organisations to be certified as having a climate-positive website

We at The Ecology Centre are delighted to announce that we have received the Climate-Positive Website Accreditation for our company website.

Errin Anderson, the General Manager of The Ecology Centre said:

“Being a responsible corporate citizen is very important to us at The Ecology Centre as sustainability and our social impact is something we strongly advocate and support. This accreditation recognises the our digital sustainability leadership by not only taking responsibility to reduce the carbon footprint of our website and maintaining a low carbon threshold. Using green energy to power the website and taking responsibility for our annual carbon emissions of the website is part of the criteria. It is imperative that we should not neglect carbon footprint of our websites and digital platforms while we work towards a net zero economy.”

“Everyone at The Ecology Centre is thrilled to receive the EFWA Climate-Positive Website Accreditation and we’re proud to be one of the first organisations in the world to have a certified Climate-Positive website.”

About Eco-Friendly Web Alliance (EFWA)

The coming years will be a critical time for the state of the planet and human wellbeing, and every action matters in our journey towards ‘net zero’ by 2050. While the focus has been on transportation, roads and buildings the internet emissions are flying under the radar responsible for nearly 4% of global carbon emissions, more than the aviation industry, and uses 10% world’s electricity (only behind USA and China), majority of this coming from fossil fuels. Websites are a key contributor to this consumption. More worryingly, internet’s carbon emissions are set to double around year 2025-2026.

Eco-Friendly Web Alliance (EFWA), a multi-organisational international alliance, has developed the world’s first eco standard for websites and digital infrastructure. EFWA’s mission is to accelerate the delivery of a sustainable digital economy by helping businesses reduce their carbon emissions of their websites, digital platforms and infrastructure, creating a pathway towards climate positivity and the use of clean green energy —help them be part of the solution.

Undertaking the accreditation process is part of your commitment to sustainability and the environment. To develop all our standards, EFWAdepends on a multidisciplinary Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to guide development and inform revisions to existing programmes. EFWA collaborates and works with a select group of highly recognised organisations across the spectrum from business, investment, industry, advocacy groups and academics. EFWA’s SAB continues to review the standards regularly.

Implementing EFWA standards is another way for you to demonstrate your credentials to customers, employees and stakeholders, and showcaseyour commitment to sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint and energy consumption of your websites and digital platforms.
