Why The Ecology Centre?
Our award winning education programme has always been at the heart of The Ecology Centre. Over the years we have worked with hundreds of children in schools, local green spaces and at The Ecology Centre.

Our approach is based on the values of compassion, environment and equity. We use nature as our teacher and aim to provide inclusive, child centred, fun and informative sessions. There are lots of ways we support outdoor learning in schools and the community - we provide CPD, inspirational learning outdoors and can take topics and make them come alive in local woodlands. We believe our work is most transformational in smaller groups lasting a number of weeks.

There are so many benefits of outdoor learning. Time in nature can help our children feel happier, more focused and engaged with learning as well as having a positive impact on their physical health. The evidence that we all need time in nature is so clear that doctors in Scotland have now started prescribing it!

Their hard work, knowledge, enthusiasm and child centred approach engaged the children and made the experience both relevant and rewarding. Furthermore, the children were allowed to take risks, use their imagination and develop real life skills, this was certainly outdoor and active learning at its best!

We’re doing loads of fun stuff with nature like making wee pictures from petals and stuff, and eating nasturtium flowers…You get to close your eyes and listen to all the sounds of nature around you. It keeps you fit walking up the hills. I liked looking at the creatures under the stones and mats – I‘ve liked everything!

Respite is critical for young carers who can come together with other children in similar situations so that they feel they are not alone… It’s great to see them try new things, have fun and forget about their worries and just be children for a while.
