About the event
The Ecology Centre is running two seagrass seed surveys over the months of June and July, we will be kick starting this series of events on Saturday the 24th of June for an initial inspection of the reproductive state of the seagrass meadow along Burntisland Sands. We hope to monitor the development of the seeds over the summer period, when seagrasses undergo their reproductive cycle. Seagrass start by producing flowers and pollen before developing seeds, which are vital for the restoration of seagrass meadows.
This event series will enhance the surveying skills of our communities and provide community members with the opportunity to learn about the different reproductive stages of seagrasses. Participants will be provided with information sheets and recording materials to undertake their surveys.
This is a registered event, so please make sure to reserve your spot. This is an outdoor event, which will involve walking over soft sand for up to 20 minutes to reach the seagrass meadow, standing and crouching for periods of time when undertaking the survey. Please can participants come dressed accordingly for Scotland's variable weather. We stongly reccommend wearing wellies during this event, as we will be entering small pools and your footware may become wet.
The meeting location for this event is the beach side walk way beside the Beacon Leisure Centre, in Burntisland. For those of you who are travelling in by car, the beach side car park is free to use and it is here the group will meet.
