About the event
The Ecology Centre is hosting the third instalment of our Seagrass Snipping Sessions, this event will allow volunteers to learn more about Restoration efforts happening along the Firth of Forth, and to help develop their knowledge of seagrass and its importance within the marine ecosystem. Volunteers will have the opportunity to visit the Seagrass Processing Unit, granting them an insight on how seed baring seagrass shoots are processed to leave behind seagrass seeds. The seeds collected through this process will be used in our planting trials, which are to follow in the new year. Volunteers will get the opportunity to contribute to Restoration Forth (RF) through this inital phase, by helping RF staff trim down the seed baring reproductive shoots. This calming and theraputic activity is not only good for our wellbeing but provides a necessary service for seagrass processing, as the reduction of biological material will result in a reduction of the deleterious substances in the processing tanks. These events are the perfect setting to get to know the RF staff and other volunteers.Â
The event will take place in the Ecology Centre away from the worsening conditions. Tea and coffee will be served, but please bring something for your lunch. This event is free to attend, however you are open to leave a donation which the centre would warmly welcome :)
